Important Things To Know Before You Go For A JB Day Trip

Want to find out how to have the best JB day trip possible? In this blog, we will be talking about how Singaporeans can go to JB for a day trip and what to do in a JB day trip through the land border from Woodlands Checkpoint to Johor Bahru Checkpoint.

If you want to take the express bus from Woodlands Checkpoint to JB Checkpoint, please prepare $2 SGD in cash and proceed to pay when you board the bus (you will need to place your money in the money machine at the entrance of the bus. And the bus driver will print out a ticket so be sure to keep the ticket!)

Similarly, if you are taking the express bus from JB checkpoint to Singapore checkpoint you will need to prepare 2 ringgit in cash and proceed to pay when you board the bus (you will also need to place your money in the money machine at the entrance of the bus. And the bus driver will print out a ticket so be sure to keep the ticket!)

If you’re planning on visiting Malaysia, you’ll need to download, register, and activate the MySejahtera app on your phone. This is how Malaysia checks your immunization status and makes contact tracing easier.

The TraceTogether app is Singapore’s counterpart of the MySejahtera app.

To download the MySejahtera app, you can download it through Google Play or the Apple App store from their official sources here.

To find out how can Singaporeans register for the MySejahtera app click here

When you are making your way back to Singapore (whether on the same day or within 3 days), you will need to complete the SG arrival card. You are able to fill up the details needed for the card within 3 days before arriving in Singapore. (What we did when we travelled for a JB day trip was to fill up the card on the same day that we were leaving Singapore and coming back) If you would like to know how to fill up the SG arrival card click here

And that is all you need to do for a JB day trip! It is as simple as that!

(PS be sure to bring your passport and soft copy of your vaccination cert with you if possible to prevent any issues from happening)

If you want to go to KSL City Mall From JB Checkpoint, you will need to go down to the first floor of CIQ Johor to go to JB Sentral Bus Terminal. From there, please walk in and proceed to look for bus 100. Bus 100 is a direct bus from JB Sentral bus terminal to KSL City Mall.

To take the bus from JB Sentral Bus interchange to KSL City Mall, you will need to buy a ticket at 1.30 ringgit per person one way.

And to take the bus back from KSL city mall to JB Sentral Bus Interchange you will also need to purchase a ticket at 1.30 ringgit per person one way. (Please note the last bus from KSL city mall to JB Sentral bus interchange leaves KSL city at 6pm so be sure to plan accordingly. We missed our bus and took a Grab back, and had to pay 7 ringgit that night)

For both trips the you will need to place your money into the transparent casing at the entrance of the bus. The bus driver will print out the ticket so be sure to take the ticket!

One of the best ways to have a fun JB day trip is to got to to KSL so be sure to have fun on your JB day trip!

We checked both Starhub and Singtel for data plans using our own sim card (This is so we don’t have to change our sim cards since we knew we are only going for a day trip and its cheaper to just get data directly from Starhub or Singtel)

Starhub’s roaming data plan to Malaysia costs $5 for 1Gb of data for 3 days.

Singtel’s roaming data plan to Malaysia also costs $5 for 1 GB of data as well but for 7 days.

Both data plans can be purchased in their respective apps (Eg Starhub roaming plan can be purchased from the My Starhub app and Singtel’s roaming plan can be purchased from the MySingtel app)

To purchase data roaming plan from Singtel, you will first need a Singtel Sim card.

If you have a Singtel sim card (provided you are using a postpaid sim card and not prepaid) Make sure to download the MySingtel app on Google Play Store or Apple App store)

If you want to log into the app a bit easier, be sure to turn off your wifi and turn on your mobile data.

If you are using your mobile data and you opened the MySingtel app, you should automatically be logged in.

Once you are logged into the MySingtel App, proceed by clicking the three dots beside your phone number or select roaming if you have that option

If you do not see the roaming icon/button on the homepage of the MySingtel App, be sure to press the three dots beside your number and press “Add-ons”, Select roaming  and select “Buy ADD-ONS”

Select the country you would like to buy data for (In this example we are selecting Malaysia) Select the plan you are interested in getting (We chose Ready Roam since it was what we needed and wanted for a JB day trip)

Under “Plan” click on “Select” and again choose the option you would like (We chose 1Gb 7 Days Malaysia since again that was what we wanted/needed)

Be sure to select the start date. (The start date is when the data itself will be enabled so that you can start using your data overseas)

Once you have selected your start date, press on “Next” be sure to read through all of the details and make sure they are accurate, scroll to the bottom and select “I agree with the terms above” and select “CONFIRM ORDER” The giant red button will say the price you will need to pay beside “confirm order” (EG CONFIRM ORDER $5.00)

If everything proceeds well and there are no issues, you will get an SMS stating that you are able to start using the data on the day which you have selected the data plan to start.

(Note. You will be billed on the next bill cycle together with your main bill)

Information that may not be current but is still good to know. As of 7 June 2022

A common “complaint” or question we see online is that most people do not want to go for a JB day trip is because you will need to buy insurance even for a JB day trip. While that is true, that is only needed if you are partially vaccinated or not vaccinated. If you are fully vaccinated (Eg 2 vaccines or 3 vaccines) you will not need insurance to go to JB or Malaysia (but of course, it would not hurt to get insurance)

(Please note, if you are unsure if you are fully vaccinated and the validity of your vaccines in Malaysia, please check this link for the officially accepted vaccines in Malaysia)

In Malaysia, those who are 18 years old and above are considered fully vaccinated with two doses of the Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca vaccines – even without a booster.

Those who are aged 60 and above, however, are required to get a third dose of the vaccine (booster) to keep their fully vaccinated status.
